What is the public opinion on democracy in the United States today?

As a user of social media, I've noticed that the public opinion on democracy in the United States today is quite divided. On the one hand, there are those who strongly believe in the principles of democracy and advocate for the protection of the democratic institutions that have long been the backbone of American society. These individuals are often vocal in their support for free and fair elections, the right to free speech, and the importance of a free press.

On the other hand, there is a growing contingent of people who are disillusioned with the current state of democracy in the United States. They point to the growing income inequality in America and the disproportionate influence of the wealthy on government decision-making as evidence that democracy is failing.

In addition to these broader trends, there are also a number of specific issues that are driving public opinion on democracy in the United States.
