How has ideology influenced the development of public management theories and practices throughout history?

Ideology is a way of thinking about how things should be done in society. It is like a set of rules or beliefs that people follow to make decisions. Ideology has influenced the way that people have managed public things like governments, schools, and hospitals throughout history.

Back in ancient times, people believed that the best way to manage things was by having a king or queen who had all the power. This was called a monarchical ideology. But as time went on, people started to question this way of thinking.

Then, in the 1800s, a new ideology called liberalism started to become popular. This idea said that people should have more freedoms and that the government should only do things that were necessary. This led to changes in public management. The government started to focus more on things like education, healthcare, and public safety.

Throughout the 1900s, different ideologies like socialism and communism also influenced the way that people managed public things. These ideas said that the government should have more control and provide more services for everyone. This led to things like social security, public housing, and national healthcare.

In recent times, a new ideology called neoliberalism has become popular. This idea says that the government should stay out of things as much as possible and that the private sector should do more. This has led to things like privatization of services, like prisons and education, and less government regulation of businesses.

So, as you can see, ideology has had a big influence on the development of public management theories and practices throughout history. It has changed the way that people think about things and has led to different ideas about what is best for society.
