How did the American Civil Rights Movement affect the relationship between race and politics in the United States?

The American Civil Rights Movement was a really important time in history for the United States. It was a time when people stood up and fought for equal rights for all people, no matter their skin color.

Before the Civil Rights Movement, there were a lot of laws and rules called segregation. These rules said that people of different skin colors had to use different schools, bathrooms, and even drink from different water fountains. This was really unfair and made some people feel like they were less important than others. The Civil Rights Movement helped to change this.

One of the most important figures in the Civil Rights Movement was a man named Martin Luther King Jr. He believed that all people, no matter what their skin color, deserved equal rights and he worked to make that happen. He gave speeches and organized peaceful protests to try and change people's minds.

Thanks to the Civil Rights Movement, laws were changed to end segregation and to give all people equal rights. This was a big step in making the United States a fair and equal place for everyone.

The Civil Rights Movement also had a big impact on politics. Before this time, there weren't many people of color in political positions. But as more people of color got involved in the movement, they started to be more involved in politics too.
