What role does government play in perpetuating or combatting institutional racism in society?

The government has a big role in making sure that everyone is treated fairly and equally. Unfortunately, sometimes the government can also do things that make racism worse. This is called institutional racism.

Institutional racism happens when laws or rules unfairly target certain groups of people, like people of color. For example, if the government made a rule that said only white people could go to a certain school, that would be institutional racism.

The government can combat institutional racism by making fair and equal laws, and by making sure that everyone is treated the same no matter what their skin color is. This means that the government should listen to people who are affected by racism, and work to make things better for them.

But sometimes, the government can also perpetuate institutional racism. This happens when the government makes laws or policies that unintentionally hurt certain groups of people, like people of color. For example, if a law is made that requires everyone to have a certain ID to vote, but it’s harder for people of color to get that ID, that’s institutional racism too.

So, it’s important for us to speak up and tell the government when we see things that aren’t fair. This can help them make better decisions to combat institutional racism and make sure that everyone is treated fairly and equally.
