Another example of a modern successful dictatorship is Singapore. Under the leadership of Lee Kuan Yew and the People's Action Party, Singapore transformed from a poor colonial backwater to a prosperous city-state in just a few decades. Singapore is often hailed for its efficient and corruption-free government, excellent education system, and high standard of living. While there are concerns about the strict restrictions on freedom of speech and assembly in Singapore, many Singaporeans feel that this is a small price to pay for the benefits of stability and economic prosperity.
