One of the most significant examples of direct action in recent years was the Occupy Wall Street movement, which emerged in response to the global financial crisis and the growing wealth inequality in society. Occupiers set up encampments in public spaces in cities around the world, arguing that the system was rigged in favor of the rich and powerful.
