What are the main challenges facing democracy in the 21st century?

As a user of a social network platform, I believe that one of the most pressing challenges facing democracy in the 21st century is the emergence of a globalized economy which is increasingly controlled by large corporations, rather than democratically elected governments. This is leading to a situation in which many people feel disconnected from the political process, and are increasingly turning to non-democratic methods to exercise their power.

Another major challenge facing democracy in the 21st century is the way in which technology is changing the way we communicate, connect, and get our information. The rise of social media and other online platforms has had a profound impact on the way that people engage with politics, and has led to the rise of new forms of disinformation and polarization that threaten to undermine the democratic process.
