Who were some of the most prominent Medieval philosophers and what were their key ideas?

Well, when thinking about Medieval philosophy, one of the first names that come to my mind is Saint Augustine, who lived in the 5th century AD. His most famous work is "The City of God", in which he reflects on the relationship between the divine and earthly realms.

Another important philosopher from that era was Thomas Aquinas, a theologian who combined Aristotle's teachings with Christian doctrine. He believed that reason and faith were not in opposition and that philosophical inquiry was crucial to understanding God's intentions. His most famous work is the "Summa Theologica", a comprehensive examination of Christian theology.

One of the key ideas that emerged during the Middle Ages was the concept of natural law, which was developed by thinkers such as Gratian and Peter Abelard. They argued that there was a moral code inherent in nature, which was accessible to human reason, and that individuals were obligated to follow it.

Another important doctrine from that time was the idea of nominalism, which held that universal concepts only existed in the mind and not in reality. This idea was developed by William of Ockham, who argued that only individual objects and experiences were real.
