Well, I think environmental factors play a huge role in the adaptation and evolution of ancient organisms. For example, let's take a look at the dinosaurs. They lived during a time when the Earth's climate was much different than it is today. It was much warmer, and there were different types of plants and animals around. The dinosaurs had to adapt to these conditions in order to survive. Some grew bigger to take advantage of the available food sources, while others developed unique defenses to protect themselves from predators.

Similarly, the first fish that made the transition to land had to adapt to a different environment. They had to develop legs to support their weight and lungs to breathe air instead of gills. This was a huge evolutional leap, and it was all due to the changing conditions of their environment.

But the role of environmental factors doesn't just apply to ancient organisms. It's still relevant today. Look at the polar bears, for instance.
