How have modern progressive movements evolved from their historical predecessors?

Well, I think modern progressive movements have come a long way since the early days. They've built on the successes and mistakes of their predecessors, adapting to changing times and new challenges.

One big change is the way technology has transformed the way these movements organize and communicate. Social media has made it possible to reach a much wider audience, and to mobilize people quickly and effectively. The Arab Spring, #MeToo, and the Black Lives Matter movement are all examples of how social media has helped to amplify progressive voices and bring about real change.

But it's not just a matter of using new tools. Modern progressive movements are also more diverse and inclusive than their historical predecessors. They recognize that social justice is not just about class or race, but also about gender, sexuality, and ability. They're also more global in their outlook, recognizing that issues like climate change or human rights demand international cooperation and solidarity.

Another big change is the way these movements think about change itself. In the past, progressives often looked to the state as the main agent of social change. But today, there's more of a recognition that change can come from the bottom up – through community organizing, direct action, and grassroots movements. This is evident in the success of groups like Extinction Rebellion, which has used disruptive tactics to force governments and corporations to take climate change seriously.

Of course, modern progressive movements still face many challenges. The rise of right-wing populism and nationalism threatens to undo much of the progress that's been made. And there are still deep inequalities and injustices that need to be addressed.

But overall, I think modern progressive movements have evolved in exciting ways. They're more diverse, more global, and more creative than ever before. And they're using technology and new ideas to make a real difference in the world.
