Why are the Chinese government and some Western governments at odds over their stance on Falun Gong?

So, there is a group called Falun Gong that does exercises and follows certain beliefs. The Chinese government doesn't like them and has arrested and punished many Falun Gong followers. Some Western governments think that this is not right and are upset with China. They believe that everyone should have the freedom to follow their own beliefs and practices. The Chinese government disagrees and thinks that Falun Gong is a threat to their country. So, the two sides don't agree and are having a disagreement.
