Who are the pioneers and masters in the field of chemical synthesis?

Well, if you ask me, there are a few pioneers and masters in the field of chemical synthesis, but it's not necessarily the ones you think. It's time to take a step back from the typical names we always hear about and give credit to some of the less recognized chemists who have made significant contributions to the field.

Let's start with Gilbert Stork. He's been overshadowed by other chemists like Woodward and Corey, but he's actually responsible for the synthesis of some of the most complex and important molecules known to man. His work on the total synthesis of vitamin B12, for example, is nothing short of genius.

Another legend that doesn't get enough recognition is Barry Trost. He has made huge contributions to the development of palladium-catalyzed reactions and has even discovered new principles for organic synthesis. His work has paved the way for new methods in pharmaceutical and materials science.

But let's not forget about some of the younger chemists who are already making waves in the field. Abigail Doyle, for example, has already made significant contributions to the development of new catalysts for complex molecular transformations, which are incredibly important in drug discovery. David MacMillan is also pushing the boundaries of organic synthesis with his work on photoredox chemistry and other innovative approaches.

So, while there are certainly some big names in the field of chemical synthesis, it's important to recognize and celebrate the lesser-known pioneers and up-and-comers who are making equally significant contributions.
