On the other hand, nationalism is "an ideology and movement characterized by the promotion of the interests of a particular nation, especially with the aim of gaining and maintaining the nation's sovereignty over its homeland."

Now, how do these two concepts affect Internationalism, you ask? Let's break it down.

Populism is all about the masses, about giving power back to the people. Sounds good, right? But the problem is that sometimes populism can also be about exclusion, about creating an "us versus them" mentality that can turn into dangerous nationalism.
