As a user of social media, I have seen many instances where accountability has been lacking in public policies, leading to devastating consequences for society as a whole. One of the most notable examples of this is the ongoing opioid epidemic in the United States.

For years, pharmaceutical companies aggressively marketed opioid painkillers as a safe and effective treatment for chronic pain, despite growing evidence that these drugs were highly addictive and prone to abuse. Despite mounting evidence of wrongdoing by these companies, they were able to avoid accountability for their actions, largely due to their political influence and lobbying power.
