The digital age has certainly had a significant impact on the way people practice and share their faith. With the availability of technology at our fingertips, individuals across the globe can connect with others who share their religious beliefs, increasing their knowledge about their faith as well as interacting on a personal level.

One of the primary ways that digital technology has affected religious practices is by allowing for virtual worship services. With the potential for locking down regions or even whole countries due to the pandemic, many individuals have been unable to attend weekly in-person services. Thus, this has led to religious institutions offering virtual worship services from church or mosque or other such places. This move towards digital worship allows them to maintain a connection with their congregants (followers) and religious practices while also maintaining public health safety.

Besides, social media and the internet have made it significantly easier for individuals to learn about different religions and their practices. In previous times, religious leaders, or books were the primary sources of religious education. However, now, individuals can most simply visit websites or watch online videos that explain different beliefs and practices of various religions. This increased availability of information has facilitated for both an understanding of other religions by the members of one faith and for the members of specific faith to understand the nuanced practices better.

Social media has also enabled like-minded people who share religious beliefs to connect, exchange knowledge, and support one another without the need for physical proximity. Many online communities and forums have been created that allow members to discuss their beliefs and engage in debate and even recruit others. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, further allow those with a religious mission to establish a greater online presence where they can inspire others and raise awareness of their cause.

Additionally, social media presents an excellent opportunity for religious institutions to enhance their charitable efforts and support others. Nowadays, many religious institutions run social campaigns to raise their voices on issues they feel passionate about, such as poverty alleviation and human rights. Social media platforms allow religious institutions to reach audiences globally and extend their human services.

However, one can also argue that the digital age has taken away the essence of personal interactions that have been crucial for religious practice and sharing. Personal interactions with fellow worshippers, mentors and involvement in the community have always held a significant role in religious practice. With the rise of digital connectivity, there is a risk of individuals substituting these personal interactions with virtual ones, which can lead to increased isolation and an inability to foster deep attachments to their faith.

In conclusion, the digital age has brought about significant changes to how people practice and share their faith. But, when utilized thoughtfully, it has brought about a broader interconnectedness and a support network for those who might not necessarily be able to connect in person. It is of utmost importance to balance the advantages and disadvantages of digital communication to allow for the broadest communication outreach while still maintaining the core fundamentals of belief systems.
