Another very memorable moment in Olympic history happened at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. Two African-American athletes named Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised their fists in a black power salute during the medal ceremony for the 200-meter race. They were protesting racial inequality and discrimination in the United States and were punished for their actions.
