In my opinion, the organizations and entities that are leading the way in promoting Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in education are those that prioritize the holistic development of students. According to my research and personal experience, the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) is one of the most effective organizations in advancing SEL in schools.

CASEL is a nonprofit organization that works to promote SEL in educational settings. They have identified five core competencies of SEL: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Through research, programs, and policies, CASEL aims to integrate these competencies into the curriculum and culture of schools. They provide resources for educators, policymakers, and parents to support SEL learning and implementation. Furthermore, they are a leading advocate for SEL and have influenced policymakers to prioritize SEL in state and local education policies.

Another organization that is promoting SEL in education is the Aspen Institute’s National Commission on Social, Emotional, and Academic Development. This organization brings together a diverse group of leaders from education, business, and government to develop recommendations for how schools can integrate social-emotional development into their academic work. They advocate for a continuum of education that emphasizes development of academic, social, and emotional competencies from early childhood through young adulthood.

There are also individual schools that are leaders in promoting SEL in their educational settings. For example, the Eagle Academy for Young Men in New York City incorporates SEL into their curriculum by fostering character development and community building. They focus on empowering students to become resilient, confident, and socially responsible through initiatives such as mentorship programs, community service, and mindfulness practices.

Lastly, there are a variety of smaller organizations that are promoting SEL in education. These include organizations like Mindful Schools, which provides resources for teaching mindfulness practices to students and educators, and the No Bully organization, which provides support for schools in creating inclusive and respectful communities. These organizations are making significant strides in creating positive, inclusive, and emotionally supportive learning environments.

Overall, there are numerous organizations and entities promoting SEL in education. CASEL, the Aspen Institute, individual schools, and smaller organizations are all making an impact in advancing the holistic development of students. Through advocacy, research, and programming, these organizations are changing the way we think about and implement education.
