Youth language is a vital force in shaping the evolution of the English language. Slang and jargon are prevalent examples of youth language, which shape the style of communication among the younger generation. Young people use distinct, new, and innovative language forms to express themselves, and this further advances the development of the language.

The creation of new words and expressions in the English language takes place through the influence of society, culture, and social groups, particularly the younger generation. Youngsters tend to create their own language to identify with their peer groups and signify their uniqueness and individuality. They use various slang words as code language to communicate secretly and to form exclusive groups.

In recent times, youth language has gained considerable significance in shaping the English language. Urban slang, for instance, has a significant influence on the language used today. Examples of such language include African-American Vernacular English (AAVE).
