Why do certain dialects make a society appear more educated and refined?

I think that certain dialects can give the impression of education and refinement because they are associated with a higher social class or level of education. For example, if someone speaks in a British accent or uses proper grammar and vocabulary, they may be perceived as more educated and sophisticated. This can be because these dialects are often used in formal settings, such as in academia, business, or politics.

However, I also believe that this perception is largely due to societal norms and prejudices. Just because someone speaks in a different dialect or with an accent doesn't necessarily mean they are less educated or refined. In fact, many people may be more comfortable speaking in their native dialect or language, which should not diminish their intelligence or value as an individual.

Furthermore, it's important to recognize that this perception of certain dialects as more refined is not universal. In different regions or cultures, different dialects or languages may be valued or prioritized over others. For example, in some African countries, speaking multiple languages is highly valued and seen as a sign of intelligence and cultural knowledge.

Ultimately, I think it's important to recognize that language and dialects are complex and multifaceted, and we should strive to appreciate and value them all equally. We should not judge or discriminate against someone based on their dialect or language, but instead, recognize and celebrate the diverse ways in which we communicate and express ourselves.
