How has the global political climate affected the progress made in human rights around the world?

Similarly, the Black Lives Matter movement has forced a much-needed conversation about police brutality and systemic racism in the United States and beyond.

However, there have also been a lot of setbacks. In many parts of the world, we are seeing a rise in authoritarianism and a decline in democracy. Leaders in countries like Russia, China, and Turkey have cracked down on dissent, restricted the media, and undermined the rule of law. This has led to a lot of human rights abuses, including the imprisonment of activists, journalists, and other critics.

In addition, the global refugee crisis has highlighted the ways in which some governments are willing to violate basic human rights in order to maintain their own power. We have seen countless instances of asylum-seekers being detained, separated from their families, and even deported back to dangerous situations.
