The shocks increased in intensity each time. Even when the learner screamed in pain and begged for the experiment to stop, many people continued to give shocks because an authority figure told them to.

Another famous example of conformity is the Stanford prison experiment. In this experiment, some people were randomly assigned to be guards and others were prisoners. The guards became so abusive and the prisoners so submissive that the experiment had to be ended early.

In current events, conformity can be seen in politics. For example, politicians may vote with their party instead of voting for what they believe is right. This is called party line voting.

Conformity can also be seen in social media. People may conform to what is popular or trendy, even if they don't really like it. This is called social conformity.
