Adverbs are words that modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. They add more detail and information to a sentence, which can help the reader understand what the author is trying to convey. Adverbs can come in many forms, such as time, frequency, manner, place, quantity, and degree. Each of them affects the grammar and syntax of a sentence in its way.

Firstly, adverbs change the way verbs function in a sentence. They can intensify, soften, or modify the verb. For example, the adverb 'quickly' modifies the verb 'run' in the sentence 'She quickly ran to the store.' The adverb tells us how the action was performed. Without the adverb, the sentence would read 'She ran to the store,' which is much less descriptive. Adverbs of frequency modify the verb to show how often the action occurs. For instance, 'I always wake up early on weekdays' tells us that waking up early is a usual occurrence.

Secondly, adverbs provide additional information about adjectives. They modify the adjective by indicating the degree to which it is qualified. For instance, the adverb 'quite' modifies the adjective 'cold' in the sentence 'It's quite cold outside.' This adverb tells the reader to what extent the coldness is being experienced. Another example is with adverbs of manner. These adverbs tell us how an action is done. For example, 'She sang beautifully' is more informative than 'She sang.'

Thirdly, adverbs affect the order of words in a sentence. When using multiple adverbs, the word order can change, affecting the syntax of the sentence. A typical word order of adverbs in a sentence is manner, place, and time. For instance, the sentence 'She reads books in the library quietly every day' is a good example. The adverb of manner, quietly, modifies the verb 'reads', while place, in the library, tells us where the action takes place. Time, every day, tells us when the action happens.

In conclusion, adverbs play an essential role in the grammar and syntax of a sentence. They add more detail and information to a sentence to convey the author's intentions accurately. One should, therefore, use adverbs correctly to enhance the quality of communication. They can be challenging to use because they often come in different forms. But with practice, anyone can master their use and become a better writer.
