Another theory is that the cocktail was invented by an Englishman named Captain Bimbo. He was allegedly stationed in Mexico during the Mexican-American War and mixed brandy, sugar, and bitters with ice. This concoction was then shared with Mexican soldiers who called it "coctel."

Yet another theory suggests that the cocktail was invented in the British Royal Navy. It was said that sailors would mix several different spirits together to mask the taste of low-quality alcohol.
