As an avid user of social media and someone who has seen the impact of cultural exchange programs firsthand, I believe that measuring their success is not as straightforward as just checking off a few boxes.

Is it aimed at fostering friendships and connections between people from different backgrounds? Or is it meant to promote a particular culture or language?

Depending on the objectives of the program, the metrics for measuring its success will differ. For example, if the objective is to increase mutual understanding, we could look at the number of participants who reported having a more positive view of the host culture after the program. If the aim is to foster friendships, we could look at the number of participants who have kept in touch with their host families or fellow program participants after returning home.

Another factor that needs to be considered when measuring the success of cultural exchange programs is the demographic makeup of the participants. Often, these programs are geared towards young adults or students, which may skew the results. For example, a program that targets affluent students may be successful in terms of generating positive feedback from participants, but it may not necessarily lead to more widespread understanding of different cultures in society at large.
