As a foodie and a lover of all things Mexican, I can confidently say that the top traditional dishes to try when visiting Mexico are a feast for the senses and a treat for your taste buds!

Let's start with tacos, because no Mexican food adventure is complete without these handheld wonders. You've got your carne asada tacos, filled with juicy grilled beef, topped with onions, cilantro, and maybe a splash of lime. Then there's al pastor tacos, featuring tender pork cooked with chiles, pineapple, and spices. And let's not forget about fish tacos, filled with crunchy fried fish, shredded cabbage, creamy sauce, and a squeeze of fresh lime. Basically, if it's wrapped in a warm tortilla, it's a must-try.

Next up on our culinary tour of Mexico is mole, a rich and complex sauce made with chiles, nuts, fruit, and herbs. There are many different types of mole, each with its own unique flavor profile and history. Some of my favorites include mole poblano, which features a touch of chocolate for sweetness, and mole negro, a dark and smoky sauce made with blackened chiles and spices. Of course, there are so many other traditional dishes to try in Mexico, from pozole to chilaquiles to sopes and beyond.
