Hey there!

Great question! There are a lot of organizations out there that are doing really great things to promote sustainability and responsible tourism when it comes to hiking. I'll share a few that I know of, and maybe some others can chime in with additional suggestions!

1. Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics: This organization is all about teaching people how to minimize their impact on the environment when they're out in nature. They have a seven-part framework that includes things like planning ahead, traveling and camping on durable surfaces, and disposing of waste properly. They also have a ton of resources on their website, including tips for specific activities like hiking and camping.

2. The Sierra Club: This organization has been around for over 100 years and is dedicated to preserving and protecting the environment. They offer a variety of hiking trips and expeditions, many of which focus on environmental education and conservation. They also have a program called "Our Wild America" which aims to protect 30% of the country's land and water by 2030.

3. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy: This organization is all about preserving the Appalachian Trail, which stretches over 2,000 miles from Georgia to Maine. They work with volunteers and partner organizations to maintain the trail, protect its natural resources, and promote responsible hiking practices.

4. The Nature Conservancy: This non-profit organization is focused on conserving land and water all over the world. They have a "Nature Works Everywhere" program that provides educational resources for students and teachers about conservation and sustainability. They also partner with other organizations to protect natural areas in popular hiking destinations, like the Grand Canyon.

5. Sustainable Travel International: This organization is all about promoting sustainable tourism practices all over the world. They work with destinations, companies, and travelers to reduce the negative impact of tourism on the environment and local communities. They have a program specifically focused on promoting sustainable hiking practices, called "Leave Positive Tracks".

There are definitely more organizations out there doing great work, but these are some that I know of off the top of my head. It's great to see so many groups working towards a common goal of protecting our planet and promoting responsible tourism. As hikers, we can all do our part by following Leave No Trace principles, supporting sustainable tourism initiatives, and advocating for environmental conservation.
