From a security standpoint, Yemen has become a hub for terrorism and extremist activities, and the war has impeded efforts to combat this. Yemen is a strategic chokepoint in the global transit of oil, with more than 10% of the world's oil supply passing through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. As the conflict continues, the risks of attacks on shipping in the region grow.

Moreover, the conflict has become a tug of war between two regional powers, Saudi Arabia and Iran. The Saudis entered the war in 2015 to support the internationally recognized Yemeni government against the Houthis, who are backed by Iran. It is high time that the world takes responsibility for ending this conflict by pressuring all parties to the conflict to come to the negotiating table and find a peaceful resolution. The humanitarian crisis cannot go on any longer, and we must lead the way in stopping this protracted tragedy.
