For example, in Africa, people had been trading ivory and gold for hundreds of years. In Asia, silk and spices were important products that were traded with other countries.

When Europeans came, they started to use African and Asian resources to make their own products, like textiles and ceramics. They also took control of trade routes and ports, which meant that they could control the prices of goods.

This had a big impact on the economies of these continents. Local people were no longer in control of their own resources, and they couldn't make as much money from selling them. Instead, Europeans were able to profit from these resources and become even richer.
