The paintings showed scenes of the deceased meeting various gods and goddesses and undergoing various tests and trials before finally arriving at the final judgment. It's pretty fascinating stuff, even if it's a little bit spooky!

Another discovery that has shed new light on ancient beliefs about the afterlife is the excavation of a large burial complex in Mexico. This complex apparently dates back to the time of the Aztecs, and it contains hundreds of human remains, along with various offerings and artifacts. According to the archaeologists, the complex seems to have been used for a variety of purposes, including ancestor worship, human sacrifice, and possibly even cannibalism. The sheer size and complexity of the complex suggest that the idea of the afterlife was a major focus of Aztec society.
