Yet, on the other hand, other political leaders have promoted policies that reinforce systems of oppression and discrimination, thus impeding progress towards greater equality.

One such policy that has been promoted under the guise of "protecting national security" is the travel ban, which has affected individuals from Muslim-majority countries. This policy is discriminatory and violates principles of equality by targeting individuals based on their religion and national origin. It creates a climate of fear and hostility that can lead to further marginalization and alienation of affected communities.

Another example can be seen in the way that some political leaders have handled issues of police brutality and systemic racism. The Black Lives Matter movement has highlighted the ongoing discrimination and violence faced by Black individuals in America. Yet, instead of listening to the voices of those affected, some political leaders have responded with calls for "law and order" and have been resistant to implementing substantive changes. This can slow progress towards greater equality by perpetuating a culture of silence and denial around issues of racism and discrimination.
