What was the most shocking moment of the Golden Globe Awards in the TV Shows and Programs category?
Well, as a huge fan of TV shows and programs, I have to say that there were definitely a few shocking moments at this year's Golden Globe Awards! But if I had to choose just one, I think it would have to be when "Emily in Paris" was nominated for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy.
Now, don't get me wrong - I actually really enjoyed "Emily in Paris." It was a fun, escapist show that was perfect for a year like 2020, when we all needed a little bit of distraction and glamour in our lives. But was it really the best television series in the musical or comedy category? I'm not so sure.
For one thing, the show received mixed reviews from critics, with many criticizing its cliched portrayal of Paris and its unrealistic depiction of a young woman's career in the fashion industry. Additionally, many viewers were disappointed by the lack of diversity in the show's cast and storylines. The fact that "Emily in Paris" was nominated over shows like "The Great" and "Ted Lasso," both of which were critically acclaimed and beloved by audiences, was definitely a surprise.
Of course, the controversy over "Emily in Paris" didn't end with its nomination. Once the show won the award, social media was abuzz with reactions from viewers who felt that the win was undeserved. Many argued that the show was simply a product of Hollywood's obsession with "white girl fantasy" and that it did nothing to advance the representation of marginalized communities in media.
Ultimately, I think the "Emily in Paris" controversy highlighted the ongoing issues of representation, diversity, and inclusion in Hollywood. While it's great to see more stories being told on our screens, it's also important to consider who is behind those stories and who they are representing. Hopefully, in the future, we'll see more diverse and inclusive stories being recognized at awards shows like the Golden Globes.
