Another way public transportation can help is by making traffic smoother. When buses or trains are on a schedule, they can move more quickly than cars that have to stop at red lights and deal with traffic. So buses and trains can get people where they need to go faster. And when people use public transportation, it can also cut down on the amount of gas and pollution that's put into the air.
