How has COVID-19 influenced the adoption of sustainable design practices and what changes can we expect to see in the future?

I think COVID-19 has definitely played a role in accelerating the adoption of sustainable design practices. With people spending more time at home and becoming more conscious of their impact on the environment, there seems to be a growing interest in incorporating sustainable practices into our daily lives.

In terms of design specifically, COVID-19 has shed light on the importance of designing spaces that prioritize health and wellness. This includes things like improving indoor air quality, utilizing natural lighting and ventilation, and creating flexible spaces that can adapt to changing needs. Additionally, with the rise of remote work, there is an increased need for home offices and workspaces that are designed with sustainability in mind.

Another aspect of COVID-19’s influence on sustainable design is the push towards circular design principles. With disruptions in global supply chains, it’s become clear that we need to reevaluate our approach to manufacturing and materials. Circular design, which prioritizes the use of renewable resources and focuses on minimizing waste and emissions, has the potential to create a more resilient and sustainable system.

Looking to the future, I think we can expect to see more innovation and experimentation in sustainable design.
