The most interesting TV trivia fact I know about Friends has to do with the casting process. Did you know that the show almost had a completely different cast? Jennifer Aniston was the first person to be cast as Rachel, but the network originally wanted Courteney Cox for the role. Cox, however, pushed to play Monica instead. Can you even imagine Friends without Cox as Monica? It just wouldn’t be the same.

David Schwimmer ended up landing the role of Ross, but the creators of the show had originally written the character for David Duchovny. He was offered the part but turned it down, so thankfully Schwimmer was able to take it on and brought his own unique energy and charm to the character.

The role of Joey was also originally written for a different actor. The creators of the show wanted Louis Mandylor to play the part, but he declined, which meant the role was up for grabs. Thankfully, Matt LeBlanc ended up getting the part and created one of the most iconic characters in TV history.

One more interesting casting tidbit is that the role of Chandler was originally conceived as more of a stereotypical “dumb blonde” character. The creators of the show originally wanted Jon Cryer to play the part, but he was unavailable. Matthew Perry came along and gave Chandler a more sarcastic and witty personality that made him one of the fan favorites.

As you can see, a lot of things had to fall into place for Friends to have the perfect cast that we all know and love. It’s hard to imagine anyone else playing these characters, but it’s interesting to think about what could have been.
