What is the most expensive diamond ever found and what is its worth?
Hey there!
So, the most expensive diamond ever found is known as the Pink Star. It's a stunning 59.60-carat pink diamond and is worth a whopping $71.2 million! Can you even imagine??
The Pink Star was actually mined in South Africa in 1999 and was called the Steinmetz Pink when it first went up for auction in 2003. At that time, however, it didn't meet the reserve price and was not sold. But that didn't discourage the diamond's owners and in 2013 they decided to put it up for auction once again, but this time it was renamed the Pink Star.
The 2013 auction was held by Sotheby's in Geneva and the bidding only lasted five minutes! It was eventually sold to a diamond cutter named Isaac Wolf for $83 million, but unfortunately, Mr. Wolf couldn't keep up with the payments and ended up defaulting on the sale.
Sotheby's then acquired the Pink Star and held onto it until 2017 when they sold it once again for $71.2 million to the famous jeweler, Chow Tai Fook.
The Pink Star is truly a remarkable diamond, not only because of its size and color but also because of its history and the fact that it's the most expensive diamond ever sold.
I don't know about you, but I definitely wouldn't mind having a diamond like that in my possession!
