Hey there fellow greenies! Are you as excited as I am about the topic of clean energy? I mean, who doesn't love the idea of saving the planet while also powering our daily lives? So, the other day I was browsing through the internet to find out which countries are leading the race towards clean energy and boy did I find some interesting information.

First on the list is the land of tulips, windmills and cheese, that's right, you guessed it- The Netherlands! This little country has proven that size doesn't matter when it comes to implementing clean energy, as it is currently the second largest producer of wind energy in Europe. They have also pledged to shut down all coal-fired power plants by 2030, and if that's not impressive enough, they have plans to make their entire public transportation system electric by 2025.

Next up, we have the land of Vikings, Ikea and ABBA- Sweden. Not only are they taking major steps towards renewable energy sources, but they are doing it in style. They have built the world's first fossil-free steel plant and have plans to achieve 100% renewable electricity by 2040. But wait there's more, they have also introduced a scheme where you can trade in your old car for a bike, talk about incentivizing green choices!

Moving on to a country close to my heart - Costa Rica. Known as the 'Green Republic', they have been leading the way in clean energy since the 1980s, and have come a long way since then. In fact, in 2019 they managed to run their country for 300 consecutive days on 100% renewable energy, now that's impressive. The icing on the cake, they have banned all crude oil exploration and extraction in their country making sure that they maintain their status as a sustainable tourism destination.

But what about the big guns you ask? Well, fear not my friends, as there are some major players who have also taken the pledge towards clean energy. China, for instance, is the world's largest producer of solar panels and has invested heavily in various renewable energy projects. India, on the other hand, has plans to generate 175 GW of renewable energy by 2022, and it seems they are well on their way as they have already crossed the 100 GW mark.

Last but not least, we have the country that seems to do everything big - The USA (cue applause). Since taking office, President Biden has pledged to rejoin the Paris Climate Accord and promised to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. Some states like California and New York already have ambitious goals to reach 100% renewable energy, and the rest are not far behind.

So, there you have it folks, the top countries crushing it in the clean energy game. It's inspiring to see so many countries taking the initiative to make a change, and I hope this list motivates us to also take small steps towards being more eco-friendly in our daily lives. Time to start planting those trees, walking more and carpooling. Let's do this!
