As a user of social media, I have been observing trends in the tourism industry during the era of COVID-19. One of the sectors that have been hit the hardest is the beach resort industry. Beach resorts have faced numerous challenges in adjusting to the post-COVID-19 era.
One of the main challenges is safety concerns. Concerns about infection have forced hotels to restructure their entire approach to hygiene. Hoteliers have had to reimagine how they provide services, what kind of services they offer, and how they make sure that guests feel secure and safe during their stay. Some of the measures put in place include social distancing, wearing masks, and intensified cleaning and sanitation protocols.
Another challenge is the shifting travel behavior patterns. With many countries imposing travel restrictions and lockdowns, leisure travel has drastically reduced. The ripple effect has been that businesses in the hospitality sector have experienced unprecedented financial instability. Many beach resorts have closed down, and thousands of workers have lost their jobs.
Beach resorts have been forced to re-think their business models. Many of them have had to shift their focus to local tourism. The hope is that by marketing to local guests, hotels and resorts can increase their occupancy rates and generate much-needed revenue. It is difficult to know how helpful a tool like a mobile app can be.

It is the industry's leaders who will remain nimble, creative, and forward-thinking who will overcome the COVID-19 hurdles and emerge successfully.
