Is carbon capture a viable solution for addressing climate change, or are there better alternatives?
Well, that's a great question and the answer is not so simple. Carbon capture can be seen as a viable solution for addressing climate change, but it's not the answer. There are many other alternative approaches that we can take which might be better suited to prevent climate change from getting much worse.
Carbon capture is a technology that traps carbon dioxide emissions from power plants and other industrial processes, and then stores it underground. It works, but it's very expensive, and the carbon dioxide must stay captured indefinitely, making it a highly complex solution for greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon capture might be suitable for a few individual projects, but it's not a scalable solution to address the wider problem of reducing carbon dioxide levels on a global scale.
There are plenty of other alternatives to carbon capture, as well. Some of these solutions include investing in renewable energy, such as wind, solar, and hydropower, that has little to no carbon emissions. Another alternative is investing in electric cars and public transportation to reduce carbon emissions caused by transportation. Additionally, planting trees and other vegetation can also absorb a lot of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Ultimately, the best answer is a combination of all of these solutions. We need to reduce our carbon emissions in every way possible and develop new technologies that can reduce these levels even further. Carbon capture might help mitigate the effects of climate change for a little while, but it's not a long-term solution to this complex problem.
