What are some of the most surprising controversies in curling history?

Well, as a casual fan of curling, I have to say that some of the controversies in the sport have definitely caught me off guard! Here are a few that come to mind:

The Brooms Controversy: In the 2015-2016 season, a new type of brush emerged on the market. These brushes, known as "directional fabric" brushes, were designed to manipulate the ice to make curling stones curl more dramatically. Some players and coaches argued that this gave an unfair advantage to teams using the new brushes, and there was a lot of heated debate about whether they should be allowed in competition. Eventually, the World Curling Federation put rules in place to limit the use of these brushes.

The Pants Controversy: Yes, you read that right. In 2010, the Norwegian men's curling team made waves at the Olympics not only for their impressive skills on the ice, but also for their pants. The team wore brightly colored, checkered pants that were a far cry from the usual drab curling attire. Some people loved the pants and thought they were a fun addition to the sport, while others thought they were a distraction and disrespected the tradition of curling. Regardless of where you stand on the issue, it's hard to deny that the pants caused quite a stir!

The Russian Doping Scandal: This controversy doesn't just affect curling, but it has definitely shaken up the sport in recent years.
