Can fishing be considered a competitive team sport like football?

That being said, there are forms of fishing that do involve a team dynamic and can be considered competitive team sports.

One such form of competitive fishing is known as "bass fishing." Bass fishing involves teams of two fishermen competing to catch the largest "bucket" of bass (a certain number of fish). The teams are guided by a professional fishing guide, who helps them find the best spots and gives them advice on which lures and techniques to use. The teams compete over multiple days, with the team that catches the most fish winning the tournament and a cash prize. There are professional bass fishing tournaments held throughout the year, with the most prestigious being the Bassmaster Classic.

Another form of competitive fishing, which is more akin to individual sports like golf or tennis, is known as "fly fishing." Fly fishing involves the use of a lightweight, specialized rod and reel, and a special type of bait (called a "fly") that is designed to look like the insects and other small creatures that fish love to eat.
