What happened to the Templars after they were disbanded by the Pope in the 1300s?

Well, as far as I know, in the 1300s the Knights Templar were disbanded by the Pope due to accusations of heresy and other crimes. The fate of the individual Templars varied. Some were imprisoned, tortured and executed, while others were able to escape and go into hiding.

One of the most famous Templars, Jacques de Molay, was sentenced to death and burned at the stake. Before he died, he allegedly cursed the Pope and the King of France, saying that they would both follow him to the grave within a year. And, sure enough, both of them did die within a year of his execution.

Many of the Templars who managed to escape joined up with other orders, such as the Knights Hospitaller or the Teutonic Knights. Some even joined up with the Spanish Order of Santiago and fought against the Moors in Spain.

Others went into hiding and kept their Templar identity secret, living out their lives in obscurity. Some even believe that the Templars had hidden treasure, and that they were able to access it after going into hiding.

Interestingly, the Templars are still a topic of fascination around the world today. There are many conspiracy theories about the order, and some believe that they still exist in secret. There are also many books and movies about the Templars, such as Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code", which has helped to popularize the mystery surrounding the order.

Overall, the fate of the Templars after their disbandment was varied and uncertain. Some were able to move on and continue their work with other orders, while others were imprisoned, tortured and executed. And, even centuries later, the mysterious and intriguing legacy of the Knights Templar continues to capture the imaginations of people around the world.
