What role did women play in fiefdoms during the Middle Ages?

Women played important roles in fiefdoms during the Middle Ages. Although they were usually not allowed to inherit land or hold titles, they had a lot of power in their homes and in the community.

One of the biggest roles for women was being in charge of the household. They were responsible for managing the home, raising children, and making sure everything ran smoothly. This included overseeing the work of servants, preparing meals, and even managing the family finances. Women were also skilled in making clothes and textiles, and many of them would spin, weave, and sew garments for their families.

In addition to household duties, some women played important social roles. They could act as advisors to lords and knights, and were even called upon to make important decisions at times. They also often acted as healers, using herbal remedies and caring for the sick. Some women also held religious roles, such as nuns or abbesses, and could even have significant influence in the church.
