Modern day societies can learn numerous lessons from both the successes and failures of fiefdoms in the Middle Ages, despite the fact that modern day societies are vastly different from the societies of that time period. The principles and theories derived from the successes and failures of the fiefdoms are still applicable to contemporary societies. As such, a careful assessment of what worked and what did not work in these medieval societies is particularly important for the modern world.

Firstly, modern societies can learn from how benefits were distributed amongst the population in a fiefdom. These benefits were oftentimes granted by the ruling lord or king, and were usually distributed amongst those who were deemed to be legally entitled to receive them. Such a system of distribution implies a meticulously organized and fair system of governance. Modern societies can learn from this system and aim to provide a fair distribution of benefits and resources to its population.
