China, for example, has made significant efforts in recent years to decrease emissions. It is the world's leading investor in renewable energy, and has committed to peak its emissions by 2030. The Chinese government is also instituting a national emissions trading system, which covers power generation, steel, cement, and other high-emitting sectors.

The United States, on the other hand, has been criticized for its lack of action on climate change under the prior administration. However, there is evidence that this may be changing.
