However, this often means that we are bombarded with negative news stories, political arguments, and polarizing content that can be tiring and stressful. People with lots of online friends may still feel lonely and socially isolated in the offline world.

Despite these negative effects, there are steps we can take to mitigate the impact of social media on our mental health. Secondly, we can be mindful of how we engage with social media. Instead of mindlessly scrolling, we can use social media intentionally to connect with people and to access information that is important to us. We can also practice gratitude by noticing the positive things in our lives and the things we are thankful for.
